Inspection Methods

Inspection Process

  1. Document check: vehicle registration, certificates issued by the original manufacturer, and inspection notification.
  2. Vehicle condition check: the driver is asked to fill out a vehicle condition checklist – whether the engine number as that on the vehicle registration, whether there are holes or leaks in exhaust pipe, whether the engine oil is sufficient, whether the water tank has enough water, whether the grooves of tires are too shallow, etc.
  3. Tempering test: the maximum rpm fails to meet the criteria is disqualified.
  4. Vehicle entering the dynamometer and anchoring: (1) vehicle secured with chains at the rear end; (2) wheel stops at front tires; (3) no access is allowed in front the vehicle and around the dynamometer for non-inspection personnel.
  5. Vehicle registration data entries: including license number, owner’s name, year of manufacture, make and model, engine number and maximum rpm, and horsepower. Pre-testing preparation is done when the data is entered.
  6. Vehicle is warmed up to the normal working temperature of the engine.
  7. The diesel-fueled vehicle exhaust test starts as per the EPA’s testing specifications. For test results that exceed the allowable criteria, a ticket is given as the law permits.
