Project Background

    With the advance of economic development and the society, the number of motorized vehicles grows dramatically. As a result, an increasing number of people start to pay attention to the air pollution resulted from the exhausts from these vehicles. As some of the car owners are not used to pay attention to the maintenance and servicing of their cars, there is no choice but enforcing certain regulations to compel the car owners to have their inspected for their exhausts on a regular basis. The idea is to help the car owners start caring for their beloved cars for effective control and reduction of emission of air pollutants from the exhausts.
    The Environmental Protection Bureau of Yilan County Government started in 2003 the “computer-controlled diesel engine dynamometer exhaust testing station establish project” at Litze Industrial Park at Wuchieh. The owners of diesel-fueled vehicles receives the notification to bring in their vehicle for visual inspection of exhaust free of charge, and the station also receives the reports of people on vehicles of high possibility of pollution. Fully scientific and automatic instruments and testing methods are used to test that the exhaust of vehicles coming for exhaust inspection complies with environmental standards and regulations. The station also serves to educate the owners of diesel vehicle to pay attention to the exhaust of their vehicles and have them serviced on a regular basis for the ultimate goal of air quality improvement.
    The Bureau urges all governmental and private owners and associations of diesel vehicles to educate the drivers, and is determined to control and reduce the air pollution in the hope to improve the air quality of Yilan and help Yilan live up to its reputation as the Clean County.
